Want to work for us?

Working at the Magpie Project is never boring and it is not often easy either. A mum and mini-centred, trauma-informed environment means compromise, chaos, noise and frequent change. Your professional boundaries, emotional awareness, and humanity will be tested daily, and you will need to bring your best self to work every day.

But the rewards are extraordinary. You will be able to see the difference you are making to people’s lives on a daily basis. You will have the honour of fighting alongside and for incredible women and children for the services to which they are entitled, and the opportunities which they deserve.

You will be offered mentoring, training, continuing professional development, support and supervision, emergency emotional support, alongside unconditional positive regard.

See below for current recruitment.

Kitchen assistant, 16 to 20 hours a week, term times only. £13 an hour.

We are looking for someone to help create a lovely breakfast buffet, offer refreshments and a light vegetarian lunch based around salads for the families who visit us.
Ideally you will have with food preparation experience, you may have worked in a cafe, or hospitality setting or volunteered on ‘teas and cakes’ at your church or community group.
This role is physically demanding as it involves lifting crates of food, being on your feet during food preparation, and moving tables and chairs.
You will know the basics of food preparation and be happy to gain training in the rest. Please note this role does not include cooking items from scratch.

You will love chopping, mixing and even enjoy washing up – but you will also be able to interact in a friendly welcoming way with all our families, and manage your own kitchen volunteers too.
This is a part time job to be done at our Newham hub, it would suit someone with school age children as we work during term times and school hours.
If this sounds like you we would love to hear from you.

Please read and download the job pack below and apply either by email or – if you prefer – in a voice note or whatsapp message.
